Terms and conditions

We really value your gift and we want to do everything we can to show our appreciation. To make sure you know exactly what to expect, we have set out the following terms and conditions.

Please read this document carefully as it contains the terms and conditions that will apply if you enter into any sponsorship, dedication, donation or adoption transaction with the Friends of Bedgebury Pinetum.

Thank you.

The schemes on offer provide donors with the opportunity to either:

  • Tree Adoption: Dedicate a specimen in the Pinetum tree collection and contribute to the care of the Pinetum and related conservation and education activities, as outlined in the Charitable Objectives of the Friends of Bedgebury Pinetum.
  • Bench Sponsorship: Sponsor a bench in the Pinetum tree collection or forest and contribute to the care of the Pinetum and related conservation and education activities, as outlined in the Charitable Objectives of the Friends of Bedgebury Pinetum.
  • Love Bedgebury Mosaic Donations: Add your dedication to the natural, hardwood block of your choice on our beautiful mosaic sculpture in the Visitor Centre atrium and contribute to the care of the Pinetum and related conservation and education activities, as outlined in the Charitable Objectives of the Friends of Bedgebury Pinetum.

To understand our charitable objectives and the work that we support, please visit our website at:

The Charity cannot refund any donations it receives.

The following are terms specific to the adoption, donation or sponsorship scheme you have selected:

Tree Adoption

The tree you select from our online gallery will be adopted for the person / family / occasion / organisation / pet of your choice for a guaranteed period of 10 years ("the adoption period").

For the first 24 months of the adoption period, or for the 24 month period after your current membership expires, you will enjoy the benefits of a Friends of Bedgebury Pinetum membership. Thereafter, normal admission or membership fees will apply.

The adopted tree will remain the property of the Forestry Commission throughout the adoption period. All trees in the Pinetum tree collection are cared for and managed by the Forestry Commission. We are unable to offer adopted trees any special attention but they will be managed alongside other trees in the collection.

The trees we have selected for this scheme are beautiful, established or mature specimens set in prominent areas of the Pinetum. Each has a good chance of surviving and thriving throughout the adoption period. However, in the unusual event that an adopted tree is removed as part of an adjustment to the Bedgebury Landscape Plan, should die, become diseased or be subject to an adverse act of God during the adoption period, the donor will be offered another tree of equivalent value for the remaining adoption period at no cost to the donor. Under these circumstances we would not be able to guarantee the location or type of the replacement tree, but we would do our best to accommodate donor wishes. No replacement will be offered for failures arising for any reason after the adoption period.

We do not permit ashes to be scattered in the Pinetum under any circumstances as this practise can be detrimental to tree growth and is not beneficial to wildlife or other visitors. We do not permit the burial of ashes or the leaving of flowers, plants, memento’s, caskets, stones, logs or other objects around adopted trees in the Pinetum and we will remove any such items found.

Please do not disturb the ground in any way, cause disturbance or harm to any flora or fauna or plant anything near the adopted tree or elsewhere in the Pinetum

We look forward to welcoming you and your friends and family to Bedgebury to enjoy the wonderful forest and tree collection that you are helping to support, but we cannot permit any formal ceremonies connected with your adoption in the Pinetum, whatever the occasion.

Each of the trees in our collection is marked by a black label detailing important information about the tree. Adopted trees will be uniquely marked as “Adopted”. We ask that you mark the tree in no other way. The engraved label will be added to the tree within 60 days of the completion of your online transaction.

The duration of the adoption is intended to be the period indicated or for as long as the forest / tree is owned by and / or managed by the Forestry Commission or equivalent / replacement organisation, whichever is the shorter.

You will be able to collect an adoption pack from the Visitor Information Office at the Visitor Centre at Bedgebury within 28 days of the completion of the online transaction. The pack will contain the following items:

  • A limited edition print of a painting of your tree species by a member of our Florilegium. The image will be A3 in size and will be mounted in a standard cream mount ready for you to frame at your cost. If you have selected a dedication for the mount during the online process, the print will be made available to you with the dedication in place.
  • Information relating to your two year membership of the Friends of Bedgebury Pinetum. Although your membership pack may not be available immediately, you will be able to access the site freely under the normal terms and conditions of membership upon presentation of the adoption confirmation e-mail at the Bedgebury Visitor Information Office until your membership pack becomes available.
  • Details of how to get in touch with us in order to book your walk in the Pinetum with the site’s Dendrologist or a member of the Tree Team if you have selected this option. The tour will be offered to you from a selection of pre-arranged dates. We will not be able to guarantee a tour on the date of your choice.

Bench Sponsorship

The bench you select from our online gallery will be sponsored for the person / family / occasion / organisation / pet of your choice for a guaranteed period of 10 years ("the sponsorship period").

Throughout your sponsorship period we will guarantee the upkeep of your bench or picnic table. If an existing bench in the locations being offered for sponsorship is more than 2 years old, it may be replaced by a new bench upon sponsorship. We cannot guarantee a new bench upon sponsorship, but we will ensure your bench remains in good condition throughout your sponsorship period.

For the first 24 months of the adoption period, or for the 24 month period after your current membership expires, you will enjoy the benefits of a Friends of Bedgebury Pinetum membership. Thereafter, normal admission or membership fees will apply.

The sponsored bench will remain the property of the Forestry Commission throughout the sponsorship period. All benches in the Pinetum and forest are cared for and managed by the Forestry Commission. We are unable to offer sponsored benches any special attention but they will be managed and maintained alongside other benches on site.

However in the unusual event that a sponsored bench needs to be removed as part of an adjustment to the Bedgebury Landscape Plan or for any other reason during the sponsorship period, the donor will be offered another bench for the remaining sponsorship period at no cost to the donor. Under these circumstances we would not be able to guarantee the location of the replacement bench, but we would do our best to accommodate your wishes. No replacement will be offered for failures arising for any reason after the adoption period.

We do not permit ashes to be scattered in the Pinetum under any circumstances as this practise can be detrimental to tree growth and is not beneficial to wildlife or other visitors. We do not permit the burial of ashes or the leaving of flowers, plants, memento’s, caskets, stones, logs or other objects in sponsored areas of the Pinetum and we will remove any such items found.

Please do not disturb the ground near your bench in any way, cause disturbance or harm to any flora or fauna or plant anything near the sponsored bench or elsewhere in the Pinetum

We look forward to welcoming you and your friends and family to Bedgebury to enjoy the wonderful tree collection and forest that you are helping to support, but we cannot permit any formal ceremonies connected with your sponsorship in the Pinetum, whatever the occasion.

Each bench will be marked by a plaque showing the name associated with your sponsorship. We ask that you mark the bench in no other way. Your engraved plaque will be added to the bench within 60 days of the completion of your online transaction.

The duration of the sponsorship is intended to be the period indicated or for as long as the forest / bench is owned by and / or managed by the Forestry Commission or equivalent / replacement organisation, whichever is the shorter.

You will be able to collect a sponsorship pack from the Visitor Information Office at the Visitor Centre at Bedgebury within 28 days of the completion of the online transaction. The pack will contain the following items:

  • Information relating to your two year membership of the Friends of Bedgebury Pinetum. Although your membership pack may not be available immediately, you will be able to access the site freely under the normal terms and conditions of membership upon presentation of the adoption confirmation e-mail at the Bedgebury Visitor Information Office until your membership pack becomes available.

Love Bedgebury Mosaic Donations

The block you select for the wall art sculpture in the Visitor Centre atrium will be dedicated to the person / family / occasion / organisation / pet of your choice for a guaranteed period of at least 5 years.

The block will remain the property of the Forestry Commission throughout the 5 year period and will be cared for and managed by the Forestry Commission.

Please note that if your dedication is a memorial, we do not permit ashes to be scattered in the Pinetum under any circumstances as this practise is not beneficial for the trees, wildlife or other visitors. We do not permit the burial of ashes or the leaving of flowers, plants, memento’s, caskets, stones, logs or other objects in the Pinetum and we will remove any such items found.

We look forward to welcoming you and your friends and family to Bedgebury but we cannot permit any formal ceremonies connected with your dedication in the Pinetum, whatever the occasion.

Each block will be marked by an engraving showing your dedication. The block will be supplied from suitably dried and prepared timber. However, wood is a natural product and, as a result, the appearance of your dedication as a result of the engraving process can not be guaranteed. The colour, condition and appearance of the block may alter over time because of environmental conditions in the atrium. Such natural changes in the wood are to be expected and blocks will not be replaced if changes occur. We ask that you mark the mosaic in no other way.

We will endeavour to add your engraved block to the mosaic sculpture within 120 days of the completion of your donation transaction, however this period cannot be guaranteed as the engraving process is completed in batches, the timing of which will be determined by the number of blocks being dedicated by other donors. We will do everything we can to keep the period between the order and the installation of your block to a minimum.

The duration of the dedication is intended to be the period indicated or for as long as the forest / Café / Visitor Centre building is owned by and / or managed by the Forestry Commission or equivalent / replacement organisation, whichever is the shorter.
